Oak Ridge, TN, USA - 20/21/22 October 2006

Ben Eubank from TN was the winner and Per Zachrison from Sweden was
2nd with Al Schings from Mass. 3rd. The weather was great and so were the 32 shooters whom competed! Results are now available, although you will see a some blanks as a few shooter had to leave early on Sunday. It's hard to believe that it has been eight years since our first match! Many thanks to all of the participants over the years and to others for your support.

The 1st USIMLT Long Range Black Powder Target Rifle National Championship took place at Camp Butner (Raleigh-Durham), North Carolina 25-26-27 September 2006. A brief report and results are now available.

The MLAIC Newsletter No. 133 (September 2006) confirms that the 6th World Long Range Championship will be held at Cape Town, South Africa, September 1 through 8 2007. The following program has also been listed:

  • 7th World Long Range Championship 2009 - USA
  • 8th World Long Range Championship 2011 - Great Britain

I have had some questions recently about Oak Ridge and I know college football is starting soon. This year TN plays AL on the weekend of our match, so hotels will be of short supply and I wanted to let everyone know early to get your rooms ASAP.

2 July 2006 LRML.org 'Collecting' section has been updated with details of two Gibbs-Metford match rifles, two Rigby match rifles, Henry and Westley Richards sporting/target rifles and three Whitworth rifles (one of which is converted to a Snider action breech loader).

Butner rangeThe 1st USIMLT Black Powder Rifle Matches will be held at Camp Butner (Raleigh-Durham), North Carolina 24-25-26-27 September 2006. These matches will be shot at 300-500-600-900-1000 yards and are open to either breech or muzzle loaders.

The North Carolina National Guard ranges at Camp Butner (pictured right) are some of the best in the country. They were the venue for the 4th MLAIC Long Range World Championship in 2003.

Target carriersTargets carriers (left) are electronically controlled, raising and lowering at the touch of a button. The Camp has newly finished and equipped barracks the use of which, for male shooters, is available during the matches at no additional cost to the shooter. The NCNG is most friendly to all shooters.

 

Here's your chance to shoot, either breech or muzzle loader, under NRA match conditions at ranges from 300 yards to 1000 yards. Match details and an entry form are available.

Brian Richards: 1930-2005

Brian joined the MLAGB in 1960 and was a founder member and Chairman of Cumbria Branch, a position that he held for the rest of his life. He represented Great Britain on many occasions including trips to Europe and the USA. He was a fine shot with the shotgun but of late concentrated his efforts on mid and long range rifle shooting winning an individual medal at the Long Range World Championships held at Bisley in September 2005. Muzzle Loaders Association of Great Britain - Spring 2006

Spring sees the commencement of the mid (200-600 yards) and long (900/1000 yards) range match series for military and target rifles at Bisley. Entry forms are available for down from the MLAGB web site calendar of events.

The first match of the season is the National 200 yard Free & Enfield Rifle Championships on 12 March.

If you shoot 100m rifle events, then you certainly have all the equipment necessary for the mid-range events. Matches for military rifles, typically Enfield's, are held at ranges out to 600 yards. Small-bore (.451) rifles are used at ranges out to 1000 yards. Even if you are a novice at these disciplines do come along. Many friendly and helpful experienced members who can offer advice and encouragement will welcome you.

Note that entry is restricted to MLAGB members.

Oak Ridge LRML match is 2 months from today. Spring is just around the
corner! 300, 600 & 1000 yards. 10 record shots at each distance,
unlimited sighters. Relay times 45, 1hr, 1.25hrs respectively.

There is a limit of 48 shooters, so please don't procrastinate. Payment must be received by March 18, 2006.

Versailles, France - 1/2 April

The Concours de Tir aux Armes Anciennes at Versailles, France, will be held on the weekend of 1/2 April. The event a program of MLAIC disciplines for pistol, musket and rifle. In addition there are competitions at 300m for military and sporting rifles. Entry Form.
