Hi,

I want to buy this Gibbs for long range target ( 300 to 1,000 yards):

S.225 �Gibbs Standard Percussion model, cal .45 :

What would be the best front and rear sights? and why ? �

The best? I would spring for the Neumann sight kit, the man makes top quality sights, quality all the way... He delivers a new front and rear sight which are IMO far superior to the Pedersoli offerings. Of course, they arren't really cheap, but quality never is.

Why plan on changing the sights on a rifle you have not acquired yet? I used the original sights at ranges 100 - 1200 yards and have won matches at long range.

I have recently upgraded the foresight to a British made Holbrook one after twice snagging the spring clip on top of the Ped. one and snapping it off. I have no plans to change the rearsight.

I am reading and surfing quite a lot to get infos about a long range ML; up to now my choice goes to the the Gibbs in 45 cal.

I do not want to make any mistake in that choice and I will buy just one... and I want "the best" ...

There's no shame in being a beginer.... we all are were at some point and we all keep learning! :)

The Gibbs comes complete with foresight and rearsight. If in doubt, check with your dealer/distributor. The quality of the sights have received criticism, but they are functional and will get you shooting to a 1000 yards and beyond with the rifle out of the box. The foresight is adjustable for windage and is complete with a spirit level; the rearsight obviously has elevation adjustment, and also has a small amount of windage adjustment.

Unless one goes the custom built rifle route or buys an original, the Gibbs is the best choice for entry into LRML. It has a good track record with medal winning performances.

I did the same thing and ended up trimming the length of the spring clip back to the length of the sight - its given no problems since.
