There were some in Australia and Canada and possibly India. I don't have a lot of information on these though.

Anyone else with more information?

David

These were the Regs for 1859 although it would have taken some time for Corps to be set up in some of the colonies.  I note that Hong Kong is not mentioned but I do know there were Volunteers there at a later date.  I have a P/61 Short Rifle dated 1864 and marked to the Prince Edward Island Volunteers.

Hi all,
Part of my research is to examine the connection between the service of British regulars in the Colony of Queensland 1861-69 and the rise of both the local Volunteer Forces & Queensland Rifle Assoc. I'd be happy to exchange info on anyone interested in Australian colonial volunteer units.

Hi QVR,

Two references that fit your interest area, though you probably have them, are:
"Volunteers at heart, the queensland defence force 1860 - 1901" by D.H. Johnson & Stan Robinson "Arms in the service of Queensland".
Also there is an excellent re-enactor group doing the Qld Scottish Volunteers who have done heaps of research etc that may be of interest.  Regards, Adrian.
