Title: 'Sharpshooter in the Crimea' Post by Bill_Curtis on 07/27/05 at 5:03pm There is a really good new book just published by Colonel Michael Springman (late Grenadier Guards). It is all about Captain Gerald Goodlake VC (Gren.Gds.) who led a team of picked marksmen with the 1851 Mini Rifles in the Crimea. The men were skirmishers and snipers, and used to great effect to keep down Russian Artillery fire and suppress the Russians' own marksmen. Published by Pen & Sword Books, ISBN 1-84415-237-5. (www.pen-and-sword.co.uk) Cover price is GBP19.99 but I expect, as usual, there will be some massive discounts available. I had the honour to assist Michael Springman in the preparation of his data on the small arms of the period for this book |
