Title: Gibbs-Metford replica
Post by Russell on 10/18/05 at 1:05pm

Hello,
I'm aware of the rifles currently made in Italy but does anyone in the UK currently build a replica of the Gibbs-Metford ML rifle?

Regards
Russell

There is no commercial copy of a Gibbs-Metford match rifle available anywhere that I know of.

Metford rifled barrels can be procured, as most everything else, but will have to be commissioned which would make the rifle expensive.

Someone in Hertfordshire has built a superb copy of a Rigby match rifle, cased and with accessories. He can make more I believe, and he may be worth contacting to see if the rifle could be made but with Metford rifling.

Let me know if you want contact details.

David,
Thanks - as long as the rifle maker is open to enquiries Id certainly welcome any contact details.

Regarding modern barrels with the Metford form of rifling Ive been very satisfied (as regards both performance & price) with one I had from Ron Snover a few years ago. This particular barrel was fitted to a falling block rifle & performs well with patched bullets.

Regards
Russell

I have sent you a personal message via this forum with the email address for a possible source of a Gibbs-Metford repro.
