Title: Re: Spoons given as shooting awards Post by acland1950 on 12/16/05 at 2:49am Not exactly sure about other places but here in Jersey shooting spoons go back to the Napolionic times. Our local Militia regiments used to have target practice on a local range every month, this soon became worth shooting for as a silver tablespoon was offered by the officers every month for the best shot.......... this has continued and today most of the 10 smallbore clubs on the Island still shoot for a silver but now tea spoon owing to the costs, I have examples of local ones going back to 1820. regards, Bob M. :) :) |
