Title: Bullet info request
Post by A._Roads on 05/15/06 at 9:29am

Hi all, Could someone please post here, or email me direct if it is easier. I earnestly need a picture showing the official dimensions of the following projectiles:

1). The .45 service projectile for a Martini Henry Rifle.

2). The .303 Mk VII service projectile.

3). The .303 Mk VIII service projectile.

I need the projectiles only, not the cartridge case etc.

Help would be much appreciated as I am away from my library for some time & have no adequate reference here. I have to arrange for fiberglass copies of these, proportionally correct, approx 3 metres high, for a museum being fitted out. Thanks in advance, Adrian Roads.

My text books for the .303 period do not include bullet dimensions but that for 1887 does.  See illustration.

Thanks for that Bill, it has nailed the M/H beatifully for me.

I'm okay for the .303's now as well.

A quick draft of approx sizes on the drawing board has shown that to fit the spiral stairs & gantry inside those we need a 5' 6" higher ceiling than the 5 metres height we have. So those two bullets will be rethought....

The martini having a wider body fits well!

Regards, Adrian.
