Hello everyone!
Greetings from Russia!
It will be great if you can help me to find some info about 15th Derbyshire volunteer rifle corps.
Evgeny.

15th Derbyshire Rifle Volunteers was raised at Derby on 7th July 1860.  In 1880 it became H and I Companies of the consolidated First Derbyshire Rifle Volunteer Corps with Headquarters at Derby. In 1887 the 1st Derbyshire R V became the 1st Volunteer Battalion of the Derbyshire Regiment until 1908 when it became the 5th Battalion of the Derbyshire Regiment.

The 15th were the Chaddesden Rifles. I company mentioned above were formed in 1868.

Evgeny, what's the context of your query? Do you have a connection with or some artifact from the 15th Derbyshire VRC?

Many thanks for your help!
Yes, my interest has connection with the artifact from this corps. Couple monthes ago I've bought british patt. 1827 infantry sword with blade engraved "15th Derbyshire Volunteer Rifles". It also has owner's initials - JTR (maybe P).
What do you think, it's real to find out who it was?

Attributing the initials to an owner will be very difficult. Derbyshire Record Office will be the best place to start for seeking information on the local Volunteers.

I have a privately published manuscript by Doug Porter entitled "Gentlemen Not Abed" (1996) which is a history of the Derbyshire Volunteers. The author includes a list of "Commissions and Appointments" that he has been able to find, but there is no one with initials JTP or JTR listed.

Incidently Doug Porter passed away a few years ago and the book is no longer availale.
