"Monkey Tails"

If anyone out there has a Westley Richards capping breechloading "Monkey Tail" pistol, or knows of one in a collection that I could contact, can you please let me know. It's for a small research project that will be published, I would request a short list of questions be answered to help this research draw it's observations from as wide a sampling of these uncommon pistols as possible. Thanks, Adrian.

Used mainly by Portuguese regiments, now very rare.

I have a MT pistol number 492, dated 1867. The butt plate carries regimental numbers R1 C15.

Pleased to offer any assistance I can; sorry to be a year late in replying

Hi Gordon,
Better late than never! Could you please email me direct on [email protected]  & I'll have some questions about your pistol - does it have a ramrod etc - as there are several variables that I have been noting.
The Portuguese bought 1000 of these & the R1 marking on yours is understood to represent the 1st Regiment of Lanceiros (Lancers) who were based in Elvas, the C15 is the rack number.
There is an article about these in Skennertons latest "Collector" magazine annual, Issue #24.

If you could please email me that would be great.  Thanks, Adrian.
