Engineers (Sappers & Miners) Carbine Bayonet
06/10/07 at 12:31am

I have a colonial issue (Victoria Australia) Lancaster oval bore carbine sword bayonet. It hasn't any ordnance markings, but the blade is marked HAVASSE, I take this to possibly be a German maker but haven't been able to find anything, is anyone familiar with this name?
Also there is a small stamp, B over a number. Is this a Birmingham mark?

This is H. Chavasse & Co. of Birmingham who were large scale suppliers of bayonets to the WD.  I have a Chavasse bayonet for the P/56.  I believe they sourced some of their blades from Solingen.

Thanks again Bill for another very helpful answer, the makers name on the blade was partially obscured but I didn't realise that the first letter was missing. Adrian
