Pattern 1838 musket
09/27/07 at 8:46pm

Hello,

I am a Belgian collector of British military percussion rifles and muskets and my next collecting target would be a pattern 1838 musket. Have you ever seen any on the market as they seem to be quite rare. If so, do you have any address?
Alternatively I have found that The Rifle Shoppe make copies. Are these as good as they claim to be? Does anyone have experience dealing with them on such a complex and expensive order?

Thanks

The 1838 Musket is not Quite Rare - it is EXTREMELY, IMPOSSIBLY RARE !

The parts maker you mention has a reputation for severe tardiness in dealings.

Thank you for your reply Bill.

Were they not also made in volunteer version, as opposed to British regular army version?
Would these be less rare?

I am not aware that any /38 type muskets were sold commercially although it is not impossible..  The Volunteer movement was very much in abeyance in the period between Waterloo and the 1850s.
