Long Range Muzzle Loading World Championships

The Muzzle Loading Associations International Committee (MLAIC) is the world governing body for international competition. World Championships for muzzle loading firearms have been held since the early seventies, however these were primarily short range events. In 1999 the first MLAIC Long Range Muzzle Loading World Championship was held at Bisley, Surrey, in Great Britain.

World Championships have been held as follows:

  • 1999 : 7-11 October - Bisley, Surrey, Great Britain [Results]
  • 2000 : 5-9 October - Bisley, Surrey, Great Britain [Results]
  • 2001 : April - Cape Town, South Africa [Results]
  • 2003: 22-26 September - Camp Butner, North Carolina, USA [Results]
  • Current World Records

The next World Championship is scheduled for 2005, Bisley, Surrey, Great Britain. Further information will be found on the MLAIC and MLAGB web sites in due course.

Individual matches are normally shot at 300, 500, 600, 900 and 1,000 yards. In South Africa metric distances were used. Course of fire is:

300, 500 and 600yds - 3 sighters and 10 match shots
900 and 1000yds - 5 sighters and 15 match shots

Targets scored 5 for a bull and scoring rings go down to 1, giving a max score of 50 for the 10 shot matches and 75 for the 15 shot matches. A 'V-bull' (or x- ring) scored .1. Details of target dimensions and scoring plus rules covering firearms can be found on the MLAIC web site.
