Mar 28th, 2009, 2:11am

hello , im new here and am trying to run down what exactly this is that came into my shop.
im thinking its a feildstutzer but it has a single trigger
She is missing a wedge an barrel band . The stock has some problems so I thought I would make a new one anyway
im also looking for opinions as to its possible longer range 40 + rod distances .

any help would be greatly appreciated

thank you david .
But im aware of that ,as well as the some of the other markings .  the 45 , has me confused as its  not a 45 but a 40mm

But i have been told that both Germany and Switzerland both made and contracted these rifles
IE the 1858 Jaeger Gewhebe spelling ? and the Swiss did the 1851 field Stutzer . Both countries purchased barrels from Belgium
From what I have been able to gather is that the difference is in the triggers , but im not sure as I have also been told that while the swiss stutzzer commonly had a double set trigger . Those contracted from Germany did not ?
So what I was hoping is that someone could lead me to an area I could further research this that might lead me to more information on this rifle , as well as something that would give me a solider base for identification

Try posting on the forums of the Muzzle Loaders Association of Great Britain. These have a wider readership and might gain a better response.

I like looking at auctions. Not that I would buy anything... it's just fun looking and I learn from it too. Try searching for online. these places have really nice photos and useful info sometimes.
