LAC Kerr Rifle Ramrod
Apr 3rd, 2010 at 9:57pm

I am in the process of reconstituting a LAC Kerr target rifle. I would like to have a proper ramrod for it. My reference for knowing what a Kerr ramrod looks like is Fig. 7a of Dewitt Bailey's article on "British Small-Bore Rifles."

From that figure I can get a pretty good idea of what the ramrod tip should look like, but I can't be sure whether the main body of the rod is metal or wood. I expect that it is metal. I also cannot be sure if the tip is brass or steel.

I would appreciate it if someone could tell me whether the body of the Kerr ramrod was wood or metal. If wood, it would be great to know from what type of tree. If metal, is it steel or brass? I'd think the body would be steel, but I can't tell from the picture.

Then, is the tip steel or brass?
