Picked up a nice little NRA(GB) booklet at the weekend; ''The Rifleman's Who's Who". It is dated November 1935 and lists many prominent people of the many of whom had a long career in shooting going back to the 19th century. David

Sorry but don't have new info, but I am looking for info on L.M. Ballard who was alternate on American team at Creedmoor, USA in 1874 and again at Dollymount, Ire. in 1875. Specifically, which type of rifle he used, Remington or Sharps. He is shown in picture of American team published in Harper's Weekly after the Dollymount match in 1875 holding a Sharps, but as this appears to be pen and ink, that may be artistic license. Any info or direction for more info would be appreciated. Thank you for your help.

I have a full page picture of the American team published in Harper's Weekly, 10 July 1875. This is an engraving from a photograph. Ballard is pictured with a Sharps rifle. Is this the picture you have?

If you don't have this, there is also some brief biographical data of the team members, and I can add the note about Ballard.

The only problem is that the barrels on the Remingtons appear to be either all round or all octagon and the original Creedmoor models were 1/2 oct., 1/2 rnd. Also the tufts of grass in the foreground look "artistic", hence the artistic license.

Posts: 3	Re: 19th Century Riflemen Reply #6 - 10/14/05 at 10:00pm I was hoping that someone perhaps had researched the "Army and Navy Journal" pertaining to preliminary matches held by the Amateur Rifle Club in preparation to the International Match of 1874. These are referenced to in Sellers' "Sharps Rifles". Thanks again.
