Can anyone give me a brief overview of the tradition of awarding silver spoons as shooting awards.

Thanks,

Not exactly sure about other places but here in Jersey shooting spoons go back to the Napolionic times.
Our local Militia regiments used to have target practice on a local range every month, this soon became worth shooting for as a silver tablespoon was offered by the officers every month for the best shot.......... this has continued and today most of the 10 smallbore clubs on the Island still shoot for a silver but now tea spoon owing to the costs, I have examples of local ones going back to 1820.

Bob M. :) :)
