Woodward of Norwich??

I'm interested in how to track down a gunmaker's details from a census and where to find these. I have a double flint shotgun by Woodward of Norwich but can find no information on this maker. The gun itself is difficult to date, as the 20 bore barrels are much older than the stock and locks. The barrels have been shortened, from the breech end, at some point. Although they have silver inlays, marked 'Woodward of Norwich', they are from a much earlier gun. The locks and stock date from the end of the flint era. Unfortunately, the records from this period were lost in the Norwich Library fire, so I would be interested in any alternative sources of information.

There's no listing of Woodward of Norwich in "English Gunmakers" by Bailey and Nie.

The historical database on http://www.internetgunclub.com mentions Woodward of Norwich, c1800, but that is all the info they have.

The earliest census information available on-line is 1851 so this may post date your Woodward. You can search this at http://www.ancestry.co.uk but note that some infomation is pay to view.
