The following request for assistance is posted on behalf of the author. Request for PHOTOS for new Book - "CARVINGS from the VELDT"- "PART TWO"
I am currently working on a "Part Two" follow-on edition of my pictorial history titled
"CARVINGS from the VELDT" -
"Rifle carvings from the Anglo-Boer War of 1899-1902".
I am keen to hear from any rifle collectors or shooters who may have one or more of these 'carved' or 'engraved' rifles, carbines or handguns in their collections? I would be pleased to feature their weapons in my next book.
I already have around 230 examples of Boer War small arms for my "Part Two" book (these include rifles, carbines and handguns).
All these weapons have some style of carving, decoration, 'stock-art' or engraving on the stocks (some are presentation rifles, or the 'Sporting / Plezier' Mausers which have engraved escutcheons).
I endeavour to write a small service history on each individual Boer, British or Colonial soldier that carried these historic weapons and where possible, I add a photo of the original owner. Any known provenance about the weapon will also be greatly appreciated.
If readers & members have any such examples of carvings on Boer War weapons, I would be grateful if they could contact me directly via my website.
Please also advise make & model of rifle and serial number on both action and bolt -
eg: Magazine Lee Enfield Mk 1*,dated Enfield 1898, S/N/ 4635.
