'Sharpshooter in the Crimea'

There is a really good new book just published by Colonel Michael Springman (late Grenadier Guards).  It is all about Captain Gerald Goodlake VC (Gren.Gds.) who led a team of picked marksmen with the 1851 Mini Rifles in the Crimea.  The men were skirmishers and snipers, and used to great effect to keep down Russian Artillery fire and suppress the Russians' own marksmen.  Published by Pen & Sword Books, ISBN 1-84415-237-5.  (www.pen-and-sword.co.uk)  Cover price is GBP19.99 but I expect, as usual, there will be some massive discounts available.

I had the honour to assist Michael Springman in the preparation of his data on the small arms of the period for this book

An excellent excert from this book entitled "The Development of Sharpshooting" was published in both 'The War Correspondent', the journal of the Crimean War Research Society - www.crimeanwar.org, and 'Black Powder', the journal of the Muzzle Loaders Association of Great Britain - www.mlagb.com. I look forward to reading the whole book!
