Target Practise Register and Class Card (Read 264 times)

Strangely_Brown YaBB Newbies Posts: 4	Target Practise Register and Class Card 03/07/06 at 11:52pm I was given this card today by a friend who knows of my interest in this era of shooting. Can anybody explain why it had to be produced at the Railway Station (Bisley?) The name although faint is NH Morgan.

Bill_Curtis Full Member Posts: 137	Re: Target Practise Register and Class Card Reply #2 - 03/08/06 at 9:59am The West London did not have their own club-house at Bisley and I believe that they may have set up their temporary tented office beside the Camp Station in the area then designated "Regimental Enclosures and Rifle Clubs Camps". This is now the large grassed area in front of the Canada Hut.

Very interesting, so it's just possible that this may just have been the Victorian equivalent of what we we would now call a rail "Super Saver Ticket" for a trip to London and the price of a show included.
Although our Volunteer would only get a 10 practise rather than a show!

I did wonder, and I think Bills post might bear it out, if production of the card might have been a useful "marshalling" tool given the number of shooter in camp at that period.
