We had virtually dead calm conditions all day Saturday (20 August) at our annual long range regional Creedmoor match held at Grayling Michigan. None of the shooters had ever fired in conditions so perfect that lasted all day. Sunday was typical for Grayling…..dead calm on the first relay and 15-25 MPH wind by 1:00pm. Veteran muzzleloader Ray Hopkins took first place in the M/L division shooting his Gibbs with a 2 day aggregate score of 478-3X out of 650 possible. Your humble reporter shot his trusty 45-100 high wall in period scope class and was fortunate to win the scope class gold medal and set 4 tentative national records in the process with an aggregate score of 569-7X.
The course of fire was 15 shots at 800, 900 and 1000 yards and 2 stages of 10 shots each at 1000 yards, unlimited sighters. Most shooters fired prone from X-sticks but a few used a front rest or shot sitting from X-sticks per NRA rules. Of course, we had the most fun after the day was over swapping lies around the barbeque and watching the sun set in our great north country.
