Spring 2013 Oak Ridge LRML Report

Another great LRML weekend at Oak Ridge, TN. Friday (22 March 2013) started off cold 27 degree and only warmed to about 40 with snow showers in the afternoon. But, that didn’t stop the participants from performing well. Mon Yee ended the morning relays at 200 with a score of 99-4x followed by Lee Shaver with 99-1x and Bob Wetzler with a 98-4x. In the afternoon 300 was even closer with both John Austin and Bob Wetzler turning in scores of 96-1x. Scorecard tie breaker went to Bob. The day ended with no rain and little wind.

Shooting at 300 yards

Saturday rain fell overnight and early, then the first relay at 600 had some fog/mist to attend to and briskly cool breezes. As we ended the first relay all precipitation stopped and we only had to contend with the cool breeze as temps were in the 30’s-40’s by day’s end. Harold Wade turned in the top score of 85-1x followed by Dick Hoff with an 83-1x and Jarod Shaver with a 83. Not stopping for lunch we moved to 1000 for the final relay. Dick Hoff turned in a wonderful score of 89, followed by Brice Harper with an 84-1x and Lee Shaver with an 83. We ended the day again about 4pm and cleaned up ready for our catered dinner.

Donated prizes from SPG and Tom Rowe Books were awarded to a few lucky winners and the awards were given for all distances as well as the AGG. Lee Shaver, Dave Munch, Dick Hoff, Bob Wetzler and Jarod Shaver rounded out the top five.

The prize winners

Also, the AGG winner received a copy of the book “The Target Rifle in Australia” (donated) in which I inscribed a nice noted about the event and dates, then signed by all 29 that participated.

A few notes of the event. 13 different states were represented in the match. First time LRML’s Ryan and Grant Fleener did a wonder job getting the routing down on their first LRML match; they came even though they could only participate on Saturday. Also, I noted that Dave Munch who finished 2nd did not place in the top 3 at any distance – this goes to show that consistency is what matters most. The last note I have from the results is the top 12 finishers all were using Paper Patch… maybe just a coincidence?

Thanks to all the participated and supported the event and best wishes to those who couldn’t make it, maybe next year!
